Not to make this an Into The Wild thread but...
Give the kid some credit for trying to do something which most people in the world would never imagine, which is shedding material concerns and whole heartedly searching for something more meaningful in the world and life. The movie makes him seem like just some punk kid who was mad at his parents but the book shows a different side IMO.
To get back on topic, I don't think Rescue Dawn was very good.
