LOTR was utterly amazing for completely different reasons. I found Tolkien's style of writing to be somewhat mundane, but the concepts and entire world he created is the astounding part. It's one of the most comprehensive universes ever... the books read almost like a more thrilling history book.
Anyway, I remember that Hobbit animated film from back in the day. I saw it a couple times as a kid when HBO would randomly air it, but never, ever realized it was actually The Hobbit. The Gollum in it was fucking freaky though.
