Sebadoh were the Kings of American Indie Rock, when indie rock was cool! Lou Barlow (orgional Dinosaur Jr bassis) releasing crazy tapes and records recorded on ghetto blasters and 4-tracks. Those were the days. Bands like Sebadoh, Pavement, Smog, Butterglory, the Silver Jews, the MOuntain Goats, Beat Happening, and Eric's Trip (to name a few) making records out of nothing but solid songs and a DIY attitude. 7-inch's everywhere.
Labels like Matador, Sub Pop, K- Records, and Drag City doing what they could to get the bands to the Kids. The idea that anyone could do this and 'making it' didn't mean becoming a millionaire. Since anyone could 'make it' everyone seemed to try. With everyone trying, the Cream of the crop was just amazing.
The indie Rock I remember had nothing to do with Oasis and Blur, in fact it was the exact opposite.
