About the sailrail thing:
I did that for my parents, since they flew to ireland and then they went here to england. Was definitely straightforward:
Went to a london station (liverpool street) and then asked for a train-ship-train ticket from dublin to london which costed £23 per person.
And obviously that included booking for the irish train (dubiln-dublin harbor) the boat and the british train from holyhead to London.
On the latter they got two options: a virgin train with no changes or another one with one change. The price was the same, the only difference was the departure time.
It's really super simple. And the whole trip took 8 hours. (if you get the perfect timing it can last 6:30 hours)I don't think that the price is affected too much by the days you choose to travel. I did that one month earlier and was fine.
Unluckily enough, there is no chance to buy/book this online.
You got to visit a ticket shop in the station.
