"Many people make that mistake and come up with all manner of assumptions about what Christians allegedly believe."
Dude, c'mon, even Christians come up with all sorts of assumptions about what they believe. I was raised Roman Catholic (hence retired) and I was called a "heretic devil worshipper" by some crazed baptist at one time. Europe spent a few centuries burning and killing each other over how to define christianity and they only paused to go and kill some other biblical offshoots, those pesky muslims. And lord knows if Mormons are christians or not. When you come on here and get all preachy and then people throw up the names of very prominent christian people in american public life you say "Gee, never heard of them..." yet they're on CNN, and then you go and say "Well, I don't believe what they do..." and now you say people make "assumptions about what Christians allegedly believe"
I'm convinced christianity is whatever people need it to be, what ever gives them some sort of ego stroke to get through their dreary lives, like all religions.
