1/3 start, 1/3 mid point (like after comps are approved), 1/3 completion.
This makes it so if they somehow get shady you have more than 50% in your pocket.
I used to do a bunch of mom and pop company sites a couple of years ago and when their budgets are in the 10k zone sometimes they tend to cut their losses if thier money situation changes throughout the couple of months you're working together and they start dicking around with final payment.
Also, never launch a thing or put anything on their server until it's been completely paid for. Period.
