  Ah, yes. The famed Leopard "advancements".

  Make menu bar opaque:
  sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/co... 'EnvironmentVariables' -dict 'CI_NO_BACKGROUND_IMAGE' 0.62

  Make menu bar translucent again:
  sudo defaults delete /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/co... 'EnvironmentVariables'
