    i suggest blowing it up (not in PS) and then trying to trace it. you might not get perfect squares, but you will get a lot closer...

    though honestly, i think that if you play with the trace settings enough, and you blow it up enough, you can probably get some pretty good squares.
    then you can shrink as you like.

    only thing to remember is that if you blow it up, you need it to NOT antialias. this is why you shouldnt do it in PS. illustrator or freehand should be fine. wont add anymore pixel data, only use what is there without resampling. =)
