um, a big guy and you were scared for your life? you can hold your own? hehe. doesn't sound like it, especially if you are losing sleep over it.
my cousin was car jacked at 2:30pm in a gas station. 4 guys, came up on him, jumped in his car and put a shotgun to his head and told him to get out. he lives in riverside. my cousin carries a 380 with him and debated grabbing it. but the rational side of him told him to get the fuck outta dodge (2sec to get .380.... .02 sec to fire shotgun...yeah, get the fuck out the car).
what you need to do is grow some testicles, point one of these fuckers out the window
and declare to the motorist, "i'm sorry, what were you saying? i was reloading."
you'll sleep better.
