jkilla, there is a fuck ton more to it. every time someone generalizes a whole group of people as "lazy" or in this case "refusing to modernize," you know that the whole picture is not being looked at. my gf is an anthropology major and knows more about it, but basically, the way the reservation system is run, coupled with historical economic pressures on the reservation system, led to the state of affairs today. it's an enormously complex issue, and one that can't be written off in one sentence such as "they refuse to modernize and mooch off of government checks."
in summary - stereotypes are a bitch.
