i don't really have anything in light of engineering identity per se, bu couldn't you pull something, or some inspiration, from architectural/industrial design shops?
ie: http://eng.archinform.net/arch/2… (first in mind since i drive by the walker ar museum every day),
and general http://eng.archinform.net/index.…just an idea..
