"I have downloaded the test samples from Image Resource's low light test. This test starts at a light level about equivalent to typical city street lighting at night (1 foot-candle) 11lux and goes down to 0.67lux (1/16 foot-candle). There are D300 samples from the lowest light level at 0.67lux without High ISO NR (filenames with XNR in the end).The D300 literally wipes the floor with the 40D both regarding noise and details, and there is a difference of at least 1 stop in favour of the D300. This is evaluated without High ISO Noise Reduction, from ISO400 and up."
