dude, don't underestimate the power of student work. it may be some of the most creative you'll do. Sagmeister told me once that the work you do in the first couple of years is the work you'll be doing the rest of your life. I agree, and having a full time job can be a lot of work while you may only a expend a fraction of the creative effort you likely put into each student piece.
that said, if you want to do super dope stuff, on your own terms, freelancing aint a bad option.
