NYC -- definitely culture-wise.
They've got the National Design Museum http://ndm.si.edu/ in addition to a MYRIAD of art museums and galleries -- more so than any other U.S. cities. They've got the publishing industry, the fashion industry and people seem to be more progressive and into trends and aesthetics.
I know a guy who's moving back to NYC since he has too much work coming from the magazine and fashion photography biz in NYC (he's a photo-retoucher -- pure Photoshop work) and he doesn't want to telecommute from LA anymore.
