cool, that's a really thorough resource, thanks for the tip ribit
but I'm finding that although I can now type the english 'k' and 'a' in Japanese Katakana mode (and it comes out as the Katakana 'ka' character - awesome), I'm NOT able to then convert that to one of the more stylized Katakana typefaces that I have in FontExplorer. It only works with the Mac OSX system Japanese font sets.
