    The employers want slave-labor and this is the closest thing they have to it. They do not want to pay a living wage to people for this type of labor.

    You have a point, althought I think its a vicious cycle, it's not that they are willing to work for peanuts as you say, it's the fact that they don't have a choice. Employers know this and take advantage of it. For inmigrants sometimes it comes down to two choices starve to death or work "for peanuts". There are a lot of "illegal" inmigrants with bachelor or higher degrees who can't get a decent job becuse of the fact that the are well, "illegal"
