Well... how do you find anything on the internet yourself? Click around hoping for a relevant banner?
Links from relevant information... search engine results... internet directories etc. Having the info at the end of the way we naturally use the internet seems more natural to me.. just my 2c though... anyone else agree/disagree?

now if a user who is interested in a topic but not exposed to the message or site, than they would not find it if the information was relational.
banners are targeted by audience of the hosted site. Its just like any merchandising, I walk to in a store for jeans but i see t-shirts that i might like and you buy that t-shirt.
