"a 10yr old spending 5yrs in jail and being educated properly is probably the best thing that could happen to a kid.. probably end up a model citizen, fighting for gun control, right to life, non violence advocate, environmentalis.... "

except for the fact that that is pure fantasy!

kids going to juvie aren't just the ones who 'accidentally' shot their dad, there's delinquents and anti-socials and it's ANYTHING but a nurturing proactive environment for a kid to grow up in.

He will probably end up a criminal, having grow up in a closed off society of other criminals. Either that or emotionally scared.

rehabilitation should be the key, not punishment. i think sending a kid, that accidentally shoots his father, to jail is horribly misguided... the kid ACCIDENTALLY shot him, what's he going to get out of punishment? you think he's not punishing himself already thinking about what he did?

oh yeah, and the death penalty is wrong! especially when there's a obvious vengence aspect to it, such as in the DC sniper case where they tried shuffling the case around from state to state so that they could be assured a death penalty. WRONG!
