KELON I was thinking precisely the same thing after reading the nytimes article.
The person didn't seem to perceive the disconnect between the $85 million pricetag for the building and the "The Japanese branch of the company reported a net profit of $3.3 million in 2002." statement a few lines later.
I suppose that the project was undertaken several years back... before the precipitous drop in profits (net $59 -> $32 million over a single year), but even then it would have seemed a bit crazy.
Prada is a fashion label, but seems to be behaving sort of like a doomed dotcom.
I just hope that Prada survives long enough and holds onto that building long enough that I'll have a chance to check it out.
