...as to meta tags, keywords, all kinds of things in your code that can make your site place higher.
when working for a software comany in college, they wanted me to evaluate this software that would help add keywords and all else to make the site rank higher. It sucked.
I went to http://www.searchengines.com and read for a few hours, did all the code changes and such myself and confidently told them, "Don't spend $100 on this software, I just fixed it for free." I kept track over the next 3-4 weeks (web ranking gestation period, if you will) and soon I was able to track the changes and notice that relevant keywords in a search were bringing our site up at #1 and #2.Go to http://search.yahoo.com/bin/sear…
See that #1 ranking? That's where I worked, what I did (did not do the site). Interesting to see it's still at # 1.
There are several companies below that feature "premium audit software" in their page title.
Some of the main things to get that result are having the same keywords and tags on every single page on the site, they will be indexed by most search engines.
Anyhow, read on search engines.com and you can really have an effect on how your site ranks.
hope that helps
