    actually heard from a guy who used to work for an apple licensed retailer that they don't build ipods to last more than 1-2 years. no electronics are built to last anymore.

    the battery usually won't last more than two years that is why you buy apple care and before 2 yrs is up you get it tested and if it is below 50% retention level they replace it for you...that is what I did

    I would buy a nano before I bought a video...
    Flash = no moving parts

    $349 harddrive = one bad drop and it's done

    also you can recycle the broken one and can get 10% off a new one...
