I agree that there are some truly awful MySpace's that yeah are painful to look at... however it's users love that shit, it's tacky as hell, but I think thats why it works. You get all these young school girls that spend all day dressing up their pages with all sorts of animated gif's and what not... and they love it!
I think it would be a mistake to take that freedom away from the users as it's probably what the majority of people like to do the most...?!
