I have a kneeling chair at work now, it's the only kind that doesn't add strain to my lower back.
McKenzie method helped me and my gf with our chronic lower back problems in about 2-3 weeks. It is a set of exercises so simple, that you'd never believe would work. And they do work like a charm.
There are also do's and dont's for the future, like don't bend for the soap (squat instead).
Get a physiotherapist/chiropractor licensed in McKenzie, it's worth it.
