the answer to this is very simple, instead of having your shape that becomes the pink 3D with the flat edge on the left, simply invert it so the flat end is now facing right, and apply the same 3D effect to that shapee and it should fit perfectly into the area you would want it to be placed near.
i can illustrate an example later when i get home. its very simple.
