Perhaps you can take it even further by asking what place does "credibility" have in art? Does it distort pure creativity? Does the notion of "having credibility" discourage others (whether they are autistic or not) from creating art?
Daniel Johnston and Henry Darger are/were artists with different perceptions of reality. Does that make their work any less important?
Not sure, myself. I think the questions are more important than the answers.
