(Dec 19 06, 11:47)Ok. So that’s probably the most ignorant thing posted here today. Congratulations.
With regard to racism, the US is unique. The history of the states is synonymous with the history of slavery. And slavery in the US was almost exclusively comprised of Blacks. The real damage here is to the would-be infrastructure or foundation Black families may have had to send forward to future generations had it not been for racism (slavery). We were property. In the point of view of many - less valuable than livestock.
While whites in this country were able to make plans, build businesses, educate themselves and for all intents and purposes, pave the way for generations to come, Blacks were being sold, beaten, raped, castrated and hung from trees. We were Billie Holiday’s “Strange Fruit”. Get it?
Slavery was abolished in 1865, but the Civil Rights act wasn’t passed until 1957! Less than 50 years ago. Less than a lifetime. Still with me?
This is not an excuse for the lazy and/or wildly stupid among us, or those who simply choose ignorance - no race is bereft of them. But before the self-righteous (read: heads in ass) begin preaching the “Pull Up... Bootstrap” theory, a bit of history may prevent them from constantly smelling their own shit.
