    I remember when Brodie made first class hardtails. I'd guess they still make one? That'd cost you, though, to build it up, unless you could find a used one.

    I've never ridden one, but Rocky Mountains look decent for Canadian bikes.

    If you are looking at bikes in the $1500 + range, learn about the differneces between the mass produced (Trek, Specialized, Jamis, RM) and the handbuilt/customs (Brodie, maybe Litespeed, Merlin, Ventana).

    I've got an old Fat Chance. I love her, but it's hard to believe everyone considers it a 'retro bike'. Good, old fashioned steel.
