But then, kona, I don't like glossy screens at all (they're meant to pretend they're glass tubes imo), while many people prefer them to mattes. It is personal. Laptop screens aren't best at color reproduction and amplifying brightness with glossy overlay is not going to make them display proper tones.. Also, laptops are known for improper brightness, ie. pictures edited on them can appear darker on standalone screens - I don't know if the gloss makes it better or worse.
As for annoying reflectiveness, I had to sail for shadow when outside last summer, felt like windsurfing ;)
