don't get too arty.
make sure it is readable.
make priorities in importance = size/prominence.
let color / image / typeface do the talking, do NOT go about and use tons of cliparts/illustrations to convey a simple feeling.
be more conscious of bleeds, as you do not always know if posters will be framed or not.
