Professional photographers keep their negatives and copyright every image they sell. Check the back of your studio pics, they have 'do not copy' watermarks.
Was there a contract? Did you include any verbage that stated as such?
You could probably just send a letter with an official tone that says that all source files are retained as intellectual property and that the services paid for have been delivered or something.
