performance wise it really isnt a huge upgrade, not realy worth the price. most people arent opening up their laptops so the interior architecture isnt a big deal. as far as heat apple released firmware to for the core duo heat plus there are apps that let u control the fan speed. i work for apple so i know what they changed, and it isnt worth the price of the upgrade. if i was in the market for a laptop the core duo is better for your dollar considering the price is reduced, the real upgrades to the macbook pros will come with the release of the santa rosa chipset. the core 2 duo is a "hold over" release, similar to that of the so called "new ipods", which was basically only a hard drive size bump and some new firmware.
