Best to just ask the printer. If they're professional about their job and you don't ask a really silly question they will tell you exactly how they would like the artwork set up.
although there shouldn't be anything odd about specifying a foil, like people just said just make it a bold colour and label it as a foil.
It's much less hassle for them to tell you how they want the artwork than to receive it from you and find out its wrong and have to fix it or ask you to change something. Just ask!
