I'm sorry for having put words in your mouth.
yeah, if your reading conservative philosophers you might get into see stuff on the heavier side - although those guys are optimists, because they believe that humans had once a great civilisation.
But, where was that. Blood would freeze in your veins if you have travelled 50-60 up to 100 yrs ago in Europe. People were starving, disease everywhere - and we could push that back to the industrial revolution (the one thing those Fukoyama's and Strauss's enjoy defending so much) and on through the middle ages - portugal and spain conquering the world! Charlemagne! Caesar, etc, etc. - this only in Europe, forgetting to mention the slaughter Ottomans spread thru the Mid-East and the great emperors in the Far-East
So, when was that peak of human civilization you were talking about? Nationalities seemed more nice then, but they were also terrible places to be in - and everydody wished things could change. And they did.
You are entitled to be nostalgic. Sometimes I am too. But what are we nostalgic of exactly?
