sorry, it's not true. It never could be. Design is determined by culture, every national culture is a different mix, old and young, progressive and conservative, the nations history etc...
The demands, expectations and lifestyles of each citizen varies too much from culture to culture, nation to nation to gain any sense of blanket equality...
Some nations have been around a lot longer than others, which generally means a richer heritage and appreciation for the arts, etc.. How can the younger nations begin to be on the same level, without just blatently taking something from somebody else...
I know what you kids are saying about the balance of good and bad, but there are definite signatures from each nation.
To me:
Dutch = Direct
London = Dry & Witty
US = More is better
Scandi = Playful & experimental
