I interviewed at a fairly large newspaper a few months back. In the interview it was all about hand-coding and actionscript. Then I had a couple of "tests" using AS and XML, did everything that they asked me to do and they said my "design" didn't "wow" them.
I was like, Fuck off, the entire interview focused on interactivity and your paper runs 17 ads on every page, I thought a stately, chill ad would fit in better on a page with 16 other animated banners. They thought otherwise. The position is still open.
