I think you should completely assume his identity.
Become the old man. Think his thoughts. See what he would see. Live his life to the fullest.
Wake up at 4:30 in the morning and read the paper in your tighty whities on the porch. Complain about chronic back pain. Don't show up to work. Move in with his son and daughter in-law. Adopt his grandchildren. Drive at 25 mph on the freeway. And get a pair of those really sweet space goggles that fit over your prescription spectacles.
