doesn't matter that she's a girl or not. girls are sick designers too... the core issue is that she just didn't have any respect for this guy.
don't stew over it and don't force anything. be smart and just try to get your gig back.
judging by your post, your best bet might just be to let it go. you might not be able to handle competing for it and in the process you will play yourself out.
