  americans that worry about getting shot need to get shot.

  I agree, but at the same time I've been shot at, have been within arms distance of people getting killed and have had a lot of friends (acquantinces for the most part) die because of gun fire.

  I'm not trying to come off as "hard", or anything like that, just that in some places in America it is drastically different - but for the most part walking down any street at any time is fine.

  And I do believe that, and would never feel obliged to not do so.

  ... Which could constitute for some of my past run-ins, haha.
