you can be certain that it will take more hours than you will think it will...a lot more! we have all been there. we have all been fucked. we have all learned.
in this case, since you have no other previous work, i would say $750-1000. you will probably spend about 30+ hours on initial concepting/ 20 hours on revisions to a combination of all of your concepts to create basically a mash-up/ 20 hours on revising the concept because the client decides they also wants x, y and z. and then another 20+hours building it. oh yeah, and then probably 20+ more hours rebuilding it along with several hours of client meetings.
all in all, you will probably realize that you could make more money per hour if you worked at your local fast food joint...you will be pissed...but you have a nice portfolio piece and a lesson learned until the next freelance op. comes along.
i guess it's part of design though. i am still learning this and have been in the game for years! it always sounds like such a good project...and sometimes it actually is. good luck at any rate!
