3rror:
a bit of history:
Jews were living in the area now called Israel for the last 3,500 years in succession. many of them (but not all of them) where exiled.
After almost 2,000 years of persecution in Europe, Jews started returning and buying lands from arabs in the late 1800's, that area was not a country named Palestine, it was part of the ottoman empire. some 260,000 arabs lived in the area. They also claimed a lot of swamp land, by drying it up (many of them lost to malaria)..
Until 1917 (when the Brits occupied the are and started their devide and rule policy which is also responsible for the India Pakistan conflict) there was a good relationship between the Jew and Arabs living in that area.
During WW2 Jews that escaped from Europe were refused by every country (Sweden being the exeption, accepting the Jews saved by the Danes), including the US. Canadians even sent ships back to Germany. The British wouldn't let them go to Israel/Palestine and prisoned the refugees (the ones they didn't kill during the arrest) in Cyprus. Some managed to come illegally.
In 1947, when the British mandate was coming to an end—the UN decided to divide the country between the Jews and the lands that they owned and the Arabs and their land. The arabs did not Accept this resolution and seven arab states and the palestinians attacked Israel. During that attack they occupied the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem (which they held for 19 years). However, they lost the conflict and as a result 600,000 Arabs either escaped or were chased out (BTW, they did the same, where they could). Arab states deported and confiscated the possessions of 700,000 Jews, some of which have been living there for 2,000 years. Instead of founding a nation after the war, the palestinian territories stayed under Jordanian and Egyptian rule.
Israel suffered terror attacks since the mid 50s, that's way before the occupation.
In 1967, Nasser, Egypt's president threatened to eliminate Israel and started mobilizing forces. Israel counter attacked and was attacked by Jordan and Syria as well. Israel crushed their armies in 6 days occupying the Palestinian territories, Sinai (which was returned to the Egyptians in 1981 after a peace agreement) and the Golan Heights.
Israel agreed to give the Palestinians the territories, however, extremists on both sides jeopardized this several times. I hope it will happen in our lifetime.
3/4 of European Jews were murdered in WW2, we have no plan to move to Germany—you can, if you want to. I hear the Bratwurst is nice.
