I also wasn't a fan of OC when i was there. It's way too suburban for my taste but i did meet some really cool people/friends so it was a good experience. The guys at juxt are all really cool and so is the studio space....as long as someone hasn't turned the damn AC down again! : )
anyway, places to go (in no real order): The Lab, Detroit, Avalon, Mosun, Beach Pit barbeque, Fashion Island, Laguna Beach crystal cove, Balboa, huntington beach, Big Bear.
As tgp said also, a place that you can go to the beach and then ride 30 minutes and be in the mountains is pretty damn sweet! the only bad part of that is you have to drive through 30 minutes of strip malls!!
