Make a few appointments with print shops saying you want to check out their work. You should be able to score some samples, get an insight into their specific processes and what their techniques are. Ask questions and don't be afraid to come off being stupid. I learn something new everytime I go to the printers to pick up a job. Such as the guys that do the plate engraving for foil blocks have bottles of amyl nitrate (poppers) next to the acid tubs in case the electrodes are wired wrong producing noxious acid fumes. They use the Amyl to counteract the effects. But mostly you will learn by doing, fucking up and making mistakes.
