Look for apts that cover your utilities. The fewer bills you have to worry about your first time out, the better you can keep track of them. Also, have a bit of a slush fund set aside for emergencies and add to it each month. Totally separate from your savings account (if you have one). That way you know when you can afford a better tv/microwave/whatever. Or at least make sure you have a savings account that you add to, That way, if your car needs repair or a woolly mammoth tramples through your living room and smashes your couch, you have something to help with the expense.
