I'm in the middle of coating my porch, deck and the entire siding of my log house. It's a pain in the ass, but I have learned a ton about the process and the products.
1. Powerwash with a 20% solution of bleach (or use an eco freindly product like TimberWash http://www.millerbrospaint.com/o…
2. Let dry and check for any rot or loose wood. Repalce as needed.
3. Coat with a product such as Sikkens Rubol or Cetol (depending on whether you want opaque or transparent) http://www.nam.sikkens.com/produ…
4. The sit back for 7 years, pop a cold one and never think of it again.
