it depends on what you have, and how much money you want to spend.
there are some free apps out there that act as personal firewalls, but those can be broken down pretty easily.
if you have 500 bucks, i suggest buying a physical firewall to sit inbetween your net connection and your lan/computer.
or, if you have an old old computer laying around, you can install linux on it and set it up as a firewall/dns box.
i never recommend programs like zone alarm or black ice...they usually wreak more havoc on your desktop than good.
