wadafa.. i absolutely agree that it's the hard work that matters most...
another thing that your comment brought to mind was social diversity. I'm not sure how much it helps one's thinking and development pertaining to one specific goal, but it definitely gives a person a large advantage socially.
The more one can escape from social categories, the more one sees similarities within man in general, which leads to a greater knowledge and sense of self.
Anyways, I always thought it was cool that most great artists and thinkers in history have had some really good vices, drinking, smoking, snorting, certain obsessions, whatever. To some that may seem to be a downfall, to me - their humanity empowers all of us.
