X3 was almost never made because Bryan Singer went off and did Superman. X3 was a salvage operation and although the movie itself doesn't appease true comic book fans, what any fan can appreciate is the introduction of underlying storylines like the relationship between Kitty and Colossus or Professor X and the good doctor (Sharon) or the prelude to the beginning of the Sentinal Movement. And let's not forget how Rogue gets her real powers now that she has none (Ms. Marvel). There's a lot going on in X3 than meets the eye.
The next X-Men film will be better then all if you have the patience (not like we have a choice) for Brian Singer to return to the helm.
