heh heh, thank you all for your help, anyway - I'll certainly be going through the list of venues under more favourable circumstances (and maybe on a Thursday..).
I do get a kick out of disastrous evenings though - retrospectively, anyhow. They tend to be more interesting and revealing of the different character types. I'm always pretty self-conscious/aware when I'm in public - it was curious to see how 'un-' my old friend is.
The flip side is that despite all of this making me feel actually quite grown up (a rare sentiment), I can't help but feel that maybe I'm turning into a bit of an Islington Man.
