The National diploma in graphic design I did is actually pretty arty! We had long discussions over the 'blurred' line between fine art and design. I handed in a 10 metre wallpaper roll covered both sides with all kinds of workm essays, paintings, all to do with the theme of change. It was supposed to be the development process of a magazine. The magazine I handed in was a piece of crap, involving pictures from the roll, and random photoshop crappings.
Got a triple distinction for that course even though the end product was pathetic.
The point I am making is, I got into my course being a kid with a digital-only portfolio. Didn't draw, paint, or write. I hate the fact we couldn't go straight on to photoshop. At the end of the course I did the opposite, I handed in a load of 'arty' stuff (this is a design course remember).
The course totally blew my mind. Our tutor was so free-thinking and let us do whatever, encouraged us to explore and things.
Now the art courses everyone was doing, I'm not so sure it's that great (talking edexcel foundation in art here).. just seems to be pointless.
..of course now they have Art & Design courses etc.. so I don't know.
so umm yeah I may have gone on a tangent, but the fact is that you have some nice 'digital' stuff and the fact the refused you is probably because it isn't your course!
Before the course I 'did' an Information Communication Technology (Intermediate) course. Waste of time, I was computer geek anyway so I learned nothing, but I just moved back from NZ at an awkward time so had no School certificates. It was that or high school. I actually failed that course because I handed something in late, but I still got into that design course somehow.. lol
