It's the art of shock.
There are limitless ways in which to "protest against what is going on in the world, against this cynicism, this brutality that impregnates the world in which we live" however putting a goldfish in a blender doesn't really answer that.
Now everyone's talking about the goldfish and real reason for the piece is lost in the debate.
